Achilles James "A.J", "Acky" Nicholakis, 90, of Senecaville, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday (March 9, 2014). He was born September 24, 1923 in Cambridge, son of the late James G. Nicholakis and Effie (Lambrose) Nicholakis. He was the owner & operator of Seneca Lake Marina from 1960 to 1988. He was a successful businessman and was highly respected by many. He was a member of the Elks BPOE 448, the American Legion and was a Mason. He also bowled in several local leagues. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida, golfing, boating, was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, mowing on his Kubota tractor and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Nicholakis was a US Navy veteran, having served during WWII as a gunner on several Merchant Marine ships. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sophie Dunne; and the mother of his children, Katherine Nicholakis. He is survived by five children, Effie (Jim) Stillwagon of Columbus, Nancy (Ken) McConnell of Cambridge, James Nicholakis of Sunbury, Cathy Powell of Cambridge, and Sophia (John Jenkins) Nicholakis of Cambridge; eleven grandchildren, Nicole Waltermyer, Angela Stillwagon, Electra Stillwagon, Courtney McConnell, Ashley Podany, Lindsay Herberger, Steve Nicholakis, Carly Nicholakis, Jordan Powell, Jamie Dodd, and Roby Powell; nine great-grandchildren, Drew and A.J. Wilkin, James and Brianna Waltermyer, A.J. and Teigon Dodd, Ariston Nicholakis, Dylan Wolfe and Dax Podany; and his longtime companion , Jackie Wittler. A memorial service will be held Saturday (March 15, 2014) at 10 a.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, with Rev. Deborah Bolen officiating. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends until 12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Donations can be made in his name to the Guernsey County Veterans Council, P.O.
