Albert M. Onega, 71, died peacefully on March 10, 2011 at his home in Lore City with his family by his side. He was born on January 19, 1940 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, son of the late John and Enes (Bigi) Onega and was the youngest of six children. Al graduated from Penn State with a degree in Electrical Engineering and retired from NCR in Cambridge. After retirement, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Solomon Islands and Cameroon, as well as a substitute teacher for East Guernsey schools. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ted, Ron, and William. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cheryl (Fitzgerald) Onega; his sons, Jack (Kelly) of Mason OH, Matthew (Sunita) of Slippery Rock PA and David (Lori) of Columbus; a daughter, Rachel (Ray) Piacente of Naples FL; and eleven grandchildren, Andrew, Thomas, John, Nicholas, Alexis, Sarah, Sydney, Rachel, Joseph, Elizabeth, and Rachel Anjali. He is also survived by two brothers, John and James. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (March 14, 2011) at St. John's Episcopal Church, Cambridge, with Father John Brandenburg officiating. Burial will be at Old Washington Cemetery.
