Alfred Ernest Clauss, 92, of the Columbus Colony Elder Care of Westerville, and formerly of North Olmsted OH, passed away Tuesday (October 29, 2013). He was born February 27, 1921 in Cleveland and was the third child of Hans and Charlotte (Schindler) Clauss. Alfred graduated from the Ohio School for the Deaf in 1942. After graduation, he worked for Midland Ross of Cleveland. He then worked at Westinghouse as an electrician for more than thirty-five years. After his retirement, he worked for several years at Baker's Bakery doing electrical work. He was very active in several deaf organizations. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Stevens and Elsie Clauss. He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Lenna Mae (Carpenter) Clauss. They were married on August 7, 1943. Also surviving is a daughter, Shirley (& Robert) Srail of Sagamore Hills; two granddaughters, Kim (& Brian) Schellhase of Delaware and Tracy (& Kevin) Brooks of Toledo; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. Family and friends may call on Friday (November 1, 2013) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions in Alfred's name be made to the Ohio School for the Deaf, 500 Morse Road, Columbus OH 43214.
