Allen Trent Buchanan, 64, of Freeport, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023.
Allen was born April 3, 1959, in Akron, the youngest son of the late Grady and Vallie (Penland) Buchanan. He was a graduate of Garfield High School in Akron. He also served our country in the Untied States Army from 1977-1979, serving as PFC. Allen was also employed as a machinist.
He was Christian (Nazarene) by faith, attending Birmingham United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, working on his farm, driving his truck and four-wheeler, reading, being on Honor Guard, hunting, and fishing. He never met a stranger. Allen loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Donna, and a brother, Dale.
Surviving him are his wife, Sandra Buchanan, whom he married on June 21, 2014, two stepchildren, Emily Bumgardner (Rob Clark) of Byesville, Daniel Bumgardner of Warner, OH, two step-grandchildren, Dakota McCune of Akron, and Zackery Justice of Byesville. Also surviving are a brother, David (Patty) Buchanan of Greenwood, Arkansas, sister, Phyllis (Dwayne) Scott of Boonesville, Arkansas, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Allen will also be deeply missed by four sisters-in-law, Carol (Ron) Skeen of Parkersburg, WV, Janis McConkey of Parkersburg, WV, Linda (Bob) Doering of Lagrange, Ohio, and Anetta Huhn of Cambridge, and one brother-in-law, William (Veronica) McConkey of Cambridge.
The family would like to thank Interim Healthcare, Dr. Anthony Flarey, Interim Hospice, and the outpatient VA in Cambridge for their excellent care and support. Also, thank you to Freeport Ambulance, United Ambulance and SEORMC.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, from 12PM-1PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home, 139 South 9th St. in Cambridge, with a service to immediately follow. Pastor Mark Slay will be officiating the service. Allen will be laid to rest in Center Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Interim Hospice.
