September 8, 1929 — October 16, 2015

Barbara J. Hayes, 86, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Friday (Oct. 16, 2015), in Columbus, after courageously fighting a recent illness. She was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Lumberport, W.Va., daughter of the late Carsie D. Allen, and Audra Mae (Muster) Allen. Barbara retired as a cook manager from the Oakland Elementary School after 21 years with Cambridge City Schools. She found much joy working with, and preparing meals for the students, teachers and staff. Her family will fondly remember her delicious potato salad and orange cookies for years to come. She enjoyed meeting with her former coworkers for breakfast every month. She was 1948 graduate of Cambridge High School. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Bible Study and a member of the Cambridge Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lindy Hayes, who passed on May 2, 2008. Barbara and her family want to express their gratitude for the support of family and friends after the loss of her husband and during her recent illness. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Douglas, who passed earlier this year; a brother, Harry Allen; and a sister, Lenora Ann Hill.
