Ben L. Kissinger

February 18, 1936 — November 3, 2013

Ben L. Kissinger, 77 of Cambridge passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, Sunday, November 3, 2013. He was born on February 18, 1936 in Guernsey County, Ohio, the son Benjamin and Gertrude (Steele) Kissinger. He was a member of the Cambridge High School in the Class of 1954. On October 16, 1955 he married Carol (McCully) Kissinger, who predeceased him on May 2, 2013, having shared more than 57 years together. Ben retired from Champion Spark Plug after 33 years of service. He and Carol owned and operated Hall's Drive In for several years in the late 1960's and early 1970's. After retirement, they were also active in the antiques business, operating booths in Cambridge and Zanesville antique malls. Ben was an avid outdoorsman. Carol became his "fishing buddy" later in life and together they enjoyed spending time on area waterways as well as watching sports, playing cards and spending time with family and their beloved dogs. His children will forever say of him: "Our Dad was the hardest working man we have ever known and his lifelong mission was taking care of and providing for his family". In addition to Carol, Ben was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy Weisenstine and Betty Kissinger, and brothers Richard and John. Surviving are his daughter Cathryn Kissinger (Cindy Smith) of New Concord, sons Steven (Judy) Kissinger of New Philadelphia and Jay Kissinger (Barb Dietz) of Dublin, Ohio, sister Mary Jane Dearth of Denver, brother William of Cambridge, granddaughter Tashina Kissinger of New Philadelphia and grandson Benjamin Kissinger of Pickerington, Ohio, many nieces and nephews, good friends Dan and Therese Terrell and kind neighbor Adam Regan. The family would like to thank Dr. Doug Rush for his kind care over many years. Family and friends may call on Thursday (November 7, 2013) from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. David Kissinger officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make donations to the American Cancer Society (PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City OK 73123-1718) or Hospice of Guernsey (PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725).
