Bernard Baker, 88, a resident of Countryview Assisted Living in Lore City, formerly of Kimbolton, died Thursday (November 15, 2007) at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born January 21, 1919 in Kimbolton, son of the late Charles and Tirza Baker. Mr. Baker was a 1937 graduate of Plainfield High School. He retired from General Tire as a machinist. Mr. Baker was a member of the Revival Barn, charter member of the Kimbolton Volunteer Fire Department and former pastor of the North Salem Community Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II as a radio operator in the European Theater. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva "Betty" (Britton) Baker, whom he married on October 25, 1947 and who died on November 22, 2000; a son, Bernard "Roddy" Baker; three brothers; and three sisters. He leaves a son, Philip (& Claudia) Baker of Newcomerstown; a sister, Vernita (& Bill) Strahl of Kimbolton; six grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Kimberly, Timothy & Cody Baker and Sophia (& Tom) Amore; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Natalie and Rachel Amore; and a daughter-in-law, Merrie Baker of Cambridge. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be held on Monday (November 19, 2007) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Philip Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the North Salem Community Cemetery.
