Bernard Allen Black, 82, of Salesville, passed away Thursday (February 5, 2009) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born on September 15, 1926 in Guernsey County, son of the late Allen C. Black and Catherine (Laughman) Black. Mr. Black was a school bus driver, working privately for five years and later working for fifteen years with the East Guernsey Local School District. He was also a lifelong dairy farmer. Mr. Black was raised Catholic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vesta (Van Fossen) Black, who passed away in 1990. They were married on June 8, 1948. He leaves a son, Dannie (& Crystal) Black of Salesville; a daughter, Debbie Black of Cambridge; a brother, John (& Vivian) Black of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Dusty, Lacy and David; a niece, Karen; two nephews, Kevin and Brian; and his good friend & companion, his faithful dog Todd. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be held on Monday (February 9, 2009) at 1 p.m. with Father Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Cambridge.
