Bertha Marie (Van Peeren) Lewis, 86, of Salesville, died Friday (July 25, 2008) at her home. She was born on August 12, 1921 in Detroit MI, daughter of the late Arie Van Peeren and Lena (Streefkerk) Van Peeren. She married Harold Lewis on April 11, 1942. Mrs. Lewis retired from Baptist Mid Missions, where she served as secretary for over twenty years. She was a member of Pillow Pals at St. Vincent's Hospital in Cleveland. She loved to crochet and knit items, sending many of her creations to missionaries. She was a member of Euclid Nottingham Baptist Church of Euclid. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Lewis; and a brother, Arie Van Peeren Jr. She leaves her husband of sixty-six years, Harold Lewis of the home; two sons, Tommy (& Denise) Lewis of Salesville and Blaine (& Sharon) Lewis of Painesville Township; a brother, William (& Pauline) Van Peeren of Interlachen FL; three sisters, Marie (& Vic) Newell of Kailua HI, Virginia Heisner of Roscommon MI and Lena Newitt of San Antonio TX; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews & close friends. Family and friends may call on Tuesday (July 29, 2008) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the West Union Cemetery with Pastor John Neff and Pastor Dave Hopkins officiating. Burial will be at the West Union Cemetery, Adams County.
