Betty L. Hickman Swope

November 21, 1938 — April 4, 2011

Betty L. Hickman Swope, 72, of Byesville, died Monday (April 4, 2011) at her home. She was born November 21, 1938 in Cambridge, daughter of the late John Hill and Alice Ora (Fulton) Hill. Mrs. Swope retired from the Lear Corporation of Zanesville, where she had worked as an assembler. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of New Concord. Mrs. Swope was a member of the Buffalo VFW 8040 Auxiliary. She cherished spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ervil Hickman, who died in 1979; five brothers, Perry, Lester "Jake", Leonard, Jimmy and Bob; three sisters, Louella, Stella, and Ruth; and her mother-in-law, Ruth Swope. She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Swope of the home, whom she married June 25, 1988; two sons, Rodney (& Cathy) Hickman of Buckeyeville and Rob (& Angel) Hickman of Frazeysburg; two daughters, Penny (& Tim) Siddle of Pleasant City and Patricia (& Robert) McClintock of Marysville; two stepsons, Bruce (& Lori) Swope of Dexter City and Brian (& Renee) Swope of Zanesville; a stepdaughter, Lisa Ewert of Cumberland; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Friday (April 8, 2011) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ellen Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery in Westland Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Betty's name to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 17 N Liberty Street, New Concord OH 43762.
