Betty June Mosser Whitis

December 5, 1919 — May 31, 2018

On May 31, 2018 our precious mother, Betty June Mosser Whitis, with her loving children by her side in her home, peacefully and quietly took her last breath on this earth and was welcomed into heaven to be with her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Ralph Richard Whitis.
Born on December 5, 1919 to Ora John (Orrie) Mosser and Barbara Jane Hague Mosser, Betty was one of nine children. She graduated in the Class of 1938 from Brown High School working as a teenager for Bazley's Meat Market. After high school graduation Betty worked for Sinclair Refining.
On April 3, 1940 Betty married the love of her life, Ralph. After the birth of her first child in 1947, Betty took a hiatus from paid employment until June, 1967 in order to be totally immersed in the raising of her two children – Johnny and Cissie.
In 1967 (after the high school graduation of her second child) and for the next twenty years, Betty worked for the Guernsey County Treasurer's Office, holding the positions of Deputy Treasurer and Treasurer (filling the unexpired term of then deceased Treasurer, James R. Addison). In 1986 Betty's first grandchildren were born and she left the Treasurer's Office and returned to her true passion in life – caring for her children – and from that moment until her death was joyously, totally immersed in her grandchildren, Whitney and Erin.
Betty was a member of the East Cambridge Methodist Church since 1957. She enjoyed working as an election poll worker, served as a member and later president of the PTA, was a Brownie Leader, a beautiful seamstress, baker, homemaker, and the best mother a child could have.  She was also a life member of the Cambridge VFW Post 2901 Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by one brother, John Donald Mosser of Massillon; two children, Stephanie Whitis of Columbus and John Whitis of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Whitney Whitis and Aftab Pureval of Cincinnati and Erin Whitis and Frank Lesser of New York, NY; and eighteen nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, William (Bus)/Becky Mosser, Catherine (Kate)/Vance Galliher, Madeline (Maddie)/Gerald Whitis, Jack/Helen Mosser, Marjorie/James Addison, Thomas (Tommy Dick)/Georgianna Mosser, and Delores/John Grant; three brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law, Erlin/Bobbie Whitis, Harry/Helen Whitis; and James/Joanne Whitis; and four nephews.
Special thanks to Dr. Patrick Goggin and staff of Medical Associates of Cambridge for the care and compassion given to Betty throughout her life. To Christie Kiggans, Shirley Milton, and Elaine Wells for their kindness and friendship. And, to Janelle Lapp, Mary Ruth Birch, and Lorraine Teague of Hospice of Guernsey Inc. for the love and compassion given to Betty while under their care.
Friends and family may call on Thursday (June 7, 2018) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will follow at 1 p.m.
Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
