Betty Alice Rice, 90, formerly of Madison Avenue and a life-long resident of Cambridge, died Monday (January 17, 2011) at the Red Carpet Health Care Center, where she had received special care especially from Mary Ann Jirles. She was born April 8, 1920 in Cambridge, daughter of the late William T. Nowell and Reva V. (Nelson) Nowell. Mrs. Rice was a retired secretary for the former Universal Pottery. She was a long-time member of the Faith United Methodist Church; president of the Women's Mission Society; member of the Live Wire class; member of the choir; and a former secretary of the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul "Dick" Clayton Rice, who died September 13, 1974; and a brother, Jack D. Nowell. She is survived by a brother, Richard E. (& Ruth) Nowell of Parma; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Nowell of Riverview FL; two cousins, Jack (& Robbie) Lyttle of Newark and Joe (& Dora) Nowell of Marietta; and three nieces, Bonnie Jirles of Cambridge, Dawn (& Clint) Doolittle of Stow, and Connie (& Wally) Johnson of Graff MO. Family and friends may call on Sunday (January 23, 2011) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Keith Peachy officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
