Blaise C Urbanowicz

Blaise C. Urbanowicz, Esteemed Lawyer and Judge, Devoted Husband, Loving Father and Proud Grandfather, passed away surrounded by family and friends on August 5, 2025.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Blaise, dedicated attorney and cherished family man. At the age of 78, after a valiant 5-year battle with cancer, he departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, integrity, and unwavering dedication to justice and family.

For eighteen years, Blaise presided over the Probate Juvenile court with a dignity that commanded respect and a wisdom that tempered authority with compassion. He was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School, Class of 1965, where he formed lifelong friendships and claimed (with great confidence and limited photographic evidence) to be the greatest football player to ever grace the field. He then went on to earn his degree from Ohio University in 1969.

Blaise was a devoted husband to his adoring wife, Sammi, whom he married July 26, 2003, and the proud father of daughters, Amy Cañas (Armando),  Kathleen Urbanowicz and Courtney Hutchison (Luke), loving Poppy to Chloe (fiancé, Austin) and Molly and father to bonus son Tim Ferguson (Jen). He built a life around their happiness, never missing a moment to remind them they were loved. Proceeded in death by his parents Andrew and Ursula, survived by brothers Mark and David.

A man of wisdom, kindness, and quiet strength if you were lucky enough to have met him, his is a presence not easily forgotten.

Visitation will be held at Thorn Black Funeral Home Cambridge, OH on Saturday, August 9, 2025, with visitation 12:00pm-2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Salvation Army, 221 Dewey Ave. Cambridge, Ohio 43725, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to welcome friends and loved ones.
