Dr. Brodie G. Secrest Jr., 80, of Byesville, passed away Thursday (January 31, 2008) at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on August 28, 1927 in Cambridge, son of the late Dr. Brodie Secrest Sr. and Marguerite (Fordyce) Secrest. Dr. Secrest was a 1945 graduate of Cambridge High School and a 1952 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Dr. Secrest was a well-known, longtime local dentist. He most recently served as Dental Director for the Noble Correctional Institute. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Cambridge. During his working years in Cambridge, he was active in his church, serving as a Lay reader and a Youth Leader. He was an involved Rotarian and also participated in the local community theatre. Dr. Secrest was a member of the Ohio Dental Association and past president of the Muskingum Valley Dental Society. He was a member the American Dental Association and its coordinating committee for the National High Blood Pressure Education Program. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally (Andre) Secrest, who passed away on February 4, 1982; and his second wife, Caroline (Jones) Secrest, who passed away on November 25, 2003. He leaves two sons, Brodie G. (& Dr. Claudia Dado) Secrest III of Chicago IL and Steve (& Amy) Secrest of Chicago IL; two daughters, Martha Verblaauw of Columbus and Lorrie Secrest (& David) Osman of Windham NH; five grandchildren; and cousins, Jennie (& Rodger) Wilson of Columbus, Jon (& Linda) Fordyce of New Carlisle, Mel (& Lila) Fordyce of Supply NC and William Alexander of Pearl MS. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on Friday (February 8, 2008) at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jonn R. Brandenburg officiating. Inurnment will be at the Northwood Cemetery Mausoleum. As an expression of sympahty, memorial contributions may be sent to the Guernsey County Cancer Society or to the Cambridge Rotary.
