Brooks Hamilton Eakin, 93, of Cambridge, died Saturday (September 25, 2010) at his home. He was born July 18, 1917 in Byesville, son of the late James H. and Leita Hamilton Eakin. Brooks was a 1935 graduate of Byesville High School and he also attended Ohio University. He was a member of the Ninth Street United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks. Brooks worked for several plastic companies, RCA, and later retired from NCR. After the age of 80, Brooks learned to play the violin, guitar, and keyboard. He was a HAM radio operator. He also enjoyed his memberships in senior golf and bowling leagues. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Eakin. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Mary Elizabeth (Severns) Eakin, whom he married December 25, 1941; his children, Linda McFadden (Dennis McFadden) of Columbus, Sherry (Mike) Oatney of Sugar Grove, Marilyn (Chuck) Gibson of Cambridge, and Tim (Ruth) Eakin of Zanesville; ten grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) McClatchy, Derik (Carrie) Hertel, Sean (Tammie) Oatney, Sarah (Wirley) Weiler, Neil (Molly) Gibson, Annie (John) Hastings, Eric (Amy) Gibson, Leslie Eakin, Bradley Eakin, and Alison Eakin; and seven great-grandchildren, Eirann, Kavanagh, Amelia, Hannah, Kyle, Seth, and Ryan. The family would like to extend their thanks and deep appreciation to the staff of Hospice for their care of Brooks and for their much appreciated assistance and guidance during this difficult time. Family and friends may call on Wednesday (September 29, 2010) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ninth Street United Methodist Church (129 N 9th Street, Cambridge), where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Hogue officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Guernsey, Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
