Carl Beynon, 91, of Cambridge, Ohio, passed away on February 11, 2025, at Altercare in Cambridge.
He was born on January 13, 1934, in Cambridge, Ohio, to the late Herbert Beynon Sr. and Millie Lippincott Beynon. Carl was a lifelong resident of the area and was deeply involved in the community.
Carl was married to the late Shirley Ann (Oakley) Beynon, whom he married on July 11, 1953. Together, they shared a life filled with love, family, and service to their community. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Carl is survived by his son, Vernon (Brenda) Beynon of Cambridge; two daughters, Carla (Larry) Taylor of Cambridge and Shirleen Beynon of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Laura (Dave) McComb, Mandy (Michael) McGlumphy, Adam (Tracy) Taylor, Troy (Alicia) Beynon, and Josh (Lexie) Beynon; and eight great grandchildren, Josie, Brennan, Ty, Drew, Kara, Liam, Pippi, and Boone.
He is also survived by his sister, Judy (Bill) Pethtel of Cambridge, his sister-in-law, Joleen (Jim) Smithkey of Canton; lifelong friends of over 70 years, Cliff and Pat Buckey and Myrtle Marlatt; and many other special friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Beynon; his parents, and his siblings; Goldie Smith, Clifford Beynon, Herbert Beynon Jr., Kenneth Beynon, Rober Beynon, Donald Beynon, Paul Beynon, and his sister-in-law, Diane Holub.
Carl retired from Applied Distributions in Columbus, Ohio. He was a lifelong member of Beckett United Methodist Church, where he was also involved in the Boy Scout Program.
A man of many talents and passions, Carl enjoyed woodworking, collecting Cambridge glass, and creating ornaments, jewelry, and stained-glass pieces. He dedicated countless hours volunteering for various organizations in the area, including the Cambridge Glass Museum, where he played a key role in preserving local history. He also contributed to the creation of the Dickens characters displayed in downtown Cambridge.
In recognition of his dedication to the community, Carl was honored as Man of the Year in 2017.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 11AM-1PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge, with the service to immediately follow. Pastor Randy Mercer will be officiating.
