Carl Hartwig, 82, of Cambridge, passed away Friday (September 29, 2006) at the Cardinal House, Cambridge. He was born January 5, 1924 in Cambridge, son of the late Fred Hartwig and Flora (Close) Hartwig. Mr. Hartwig was a ward attendant for thirty-one years at the former Cambridge State Hospital. He was a 1942 graduate of Brown High School. Mr. Hartwig was an avid television watcher and also an avid bowler. He bowled a 300 game at King Pin Lanes in 1970. Mr. Hartwig was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the European and Pacific Theatres. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ivah Gallagher; a sister-in-law, Edith Hartwig; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Gallagher, Allan Laird and Robert Metz. He leaves a brother, Harry (& Betty) Hartwig of Columbus; two sisters, Kathryn Metz of Belle Meade NJ and Ruth Laird of Cambridge; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Karen (& Kermit) Trott of Cambridge. No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be held on Monday (October 16, 2006) at 1 p.m. at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
