Carolyn Faye (Cowgill) Filippis , 87, of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Newark.

Carolyn was born on February 17, 1938, in Cambridge, a daughter of the late John Cowgill and Alice (Allen) Mitchell.

She was a 1956 graduate of Akron East High School. Carolyn had a long career in administration starting with Scott Oil in the 1950's, Dyson Real Estate and Cambridge Mental Health in the 60's and 70's. She was an executive secretary for Engineering at NCR moving to Atlanta when the company relocated and taking an early retirement there in the mid 90's.  After retirement she went to work for the Atlanta Olympic Committee working from early set-up through closing ceremonies of the 1996 summer olympics. Family and an expanding number of grandchildren brought her back up to Ohio where she held working positions in Columbus and Akron until finally retiring back home in Cambridge.

In retirement Carolyn researched her family ancestry and was active with the Guernsey County Genealogy Society.  She became treasurer of the Cowgill Cousins, a family reunion group and joined them at several reunions of hundreds of Cowgill descendants at venues across the country.  She researched other branches of her family and through her research was accepted as a member of the DAR and was instrumental in having the Allen Family recognized as one of the five founding families of Guernsey County. A lifelong reader Carol was a member of several book clubs and volunteered with Friends of the Library.  She loved her family and was blessed with many friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Jeri Mayfield.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Perry (Fawn) Filippis of Cambridge, her daughters, Beth (Eynon) Seckman of Belle Valley, and Shari Kay Eynon of Solvang, CA, her brother, Daniel Bell of Cuyahoga Falls, and her sisters, Sandra Louthan of Arizona, and Colleen Coon of Akron. Also left to cherish her memory are her four grandchildren, Monica (Jade) Martin, Heather (Derick) Whiting, Andrew Filippis and Jovi Filippis, and her three great-grandchildren, Hayden (Caila) Seckman, Levi Martin, and Connor Whiting.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 4PM-7PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge.
