Carolyn Jean Hoffman Durben, 80, formerly of Cambridge, peacefully departed this life on Friday, August 18, 2006 in Wilmington NC, where she had resided since July of 2002. Born on August 15, 1926 in Vandergrift, PA, daughter of the late Kate and Homer S. Hoffman, Carolyn had resided in Cambridge from 1961-2002. She was married to the late W. Glenn Durben, with whom she had three children. For many years, she was the office manager for the Guernsey County Children's Services Board and was a member of the Ninth Street United Methodist Church. Carolyn is survived by one son, Terry (Barbara) Durben of Kinston NC; two daughters, Betsy (Aaron) Parker of Wilmington NC and Kathy (Michael) Welsch of Raleigh NC. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Marc (Tanya) Durben of Deep Run NC, Jennifer (Jesse) O'Donoghue of Lexington KY and Joshua Parker of Wilmington; as well as two great-grandchildren, Alex Durben and Kayla O'Donoghue; a brother, Howard Hoffman of Landisville PA; a sister, Martha Gradwell of Apollo PA; a brother-in-law, Harold (Violet) Durben of Coshocton OH; two sisters-in-law, Pearl (Charles) Mourer of New Concord OH and Grace Barker of Anaheim CA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. In addition to her parents and husband, Carolyn was pre-deceased by two brothers, five sisters, and two grandchildren. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday (August 22, 2006) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brad Call and Rev. Gordon Myers officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
