Charles Arthur Hayes

March 16, 1953 — April 19, 2022

Quaker City

Charles Arthur Hayes, 69, of Quaker City passed away on April 19, 2022, after a long fight with pneumonia and kidney failure after surviving his second aortic aneurism. He was predeceased by his parents, Forrest and Thelma (Harding) Hayes.

Surviving are his wife and caregiver Patty (Gallagher) Hayes, son Jacob, his unpaid but tireless legal assistant, daughter Amanda, and Frank, the best dog in the world. He leaves behind siblings Mary Ellen (Hayes) Ontko, Cheryl (Hayes) Wright, Don Hayes, and multiple beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He will be remembered as generous, stubborn, funny, frustrating, and very well loved. He leaves behind many friends for whom he was the life, and often host, of the party. Among them are Junior, his partner on all things farming, and Fred, at whose fireplace he sat and drank many a beer. He loved this land, his farm and was delighted to have recently seen a bald eagle. He took great delight in reading about his adopted baby elephant Suguroi from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Calling hours will be Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with services to immediately follow at Thorn-Black Funeral Home in Quaker City. Pastor Brian Hollis will be officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Antrim Community Volunteer Fire Department.

The family and funeral home requests that masks be worn at this visitation and service.
