Rev. Charles Robert Simpson

Rev. Charles Robert "Chuck" Simpson, 77, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (August 7, 2018) at his home.
He was born October 31, 1940 in Vandergrift PA, son of the late Clyde E. Simpson Sr. and Justine E. (Lett) Simpson.
He was a 1958 graduate of Cambridge High School. He attended Kentucky State and then was ordained through the African Methodist Episcopal of Youngstown OH.
Rev. Simpson retired after forty-four years as a pastor. The churches he pastored included St. John's AME Church of Uhrichsville, St. Paul AME Church of Bellaire, St. James AME Church of Cadiz, St. Paul AME Church of Zanesville, Shaffer Chapel AME Church of Cambridge, Quinn Memorial AME Church of Steubenville, St. Paul AME Church of Smithfield, and Bethel AME Church of Oxford. He also worked as an attendance officer for Cambridge City Schools and was the chaplain for the basketball team when Al Joseph was the coach. He served as chaplain of the Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center for several years and was past president of the Cambridge Little League Baseball and Cambridge Biddy League Football teams.
He was a 32 nd degree Mason and a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Cambridge VFW Post 2901.
Rev. Simpson was a US Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Sue Chandler.
He leaves his loving wife, Betty (Myers) Simpson, whom he married December 21, 1962; two daughters, Charla Lowery of Cambridge and Deirdre "Dee" (& Jay) Johnson of Cambridge; eight grandchildren, Joshua (& Rachel) Lowery, Jordan (& Kelli) Lowery, Jamaal (& Shannon) Lowery, Janelle (& Raymond) Shriver, Jamison Lowery, Kayla Hollins, Amanda (& Marty) Micale, and Ciara (& Wes) Harding; fifteen great-grandchildren, Jada, Braylon, Michael, Mya, Aubree, Javon, Maxine, Alivia, Jarren, Madelyn, Avery, Nora, Monty, Elliott, and Denver; a foster-great-granddaughter, Ne'Avvaha; a brother, Clyde E. Simpson Jr. of Cambridge; two sisters, Jean Diane "Toy" Simpson of Cambridge and Cynthia Simpson of Hartford CT; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Sunday (August 12, 2018) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Monday (August 13, 2018) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lester Jackson officiating.
Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
