Clarice Bernadine McVicker, 77, of Cambridge and formerly of Batesville, passed away Thursday (December 25, 2008) at Victorian Oaks Assisted Living, Cambridge. She was born January 24, 1931, on a farm near Batesville, in Noble County, the daughter of the late Edgar and Edna (Watson) Douglas. She was a graduate of Batesville High School, and enjoyed sewing and was an avid basketball fan. Now retired, Mrs. McVicker was a seamstress for forty years. She was also a member of the Calais Church. Survivors include four sons, William (Judy Watkins) McVicker of Byesville and Richard "Dick" McVicker, Kenneth (Vicki) McVicker and James (Janis) McVicker, all of Summerfield; one daughter, Sheila B. (Junior) Ackerman of Lewisville; one sister, Lois Bates; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Jean McVicker; one brother, Thomas Douglas; and one granddaughter, Krista Ackerman. Family and friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held on Tuesday (December 30, 2008) at 1 p.m. with Evang. Myron Guiler officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Guernsey, P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
