Clyde Ellsworth Simpson Jr.

Clyde Ellsworth Simpson Jr., 80, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (September 11, 2018) at Cambridge Care & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born September 24, 1937 in Vandergrift PA, son of the late Clyde Ellsworth Simpson Sr. and Justine (Lett) Simpson.

Clyde was a retired minister, ordained in the AME faith. He was a member of the St. Paul CME Church of Cambridge.

He played many high school sports, especially football.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delores (Tate) Simpson; a sister, Linda Sue Chandler; and a brother, Charles Robert "Chuck" Simpson.

He is survived by two sons, Clyde E. Simpson III of Denver CO and Johnathon Paul Simpson of Wiley TX; two sisters, Jean Diane "Toy" Simpson of Cambridge and Cynthia Simpson of Hartford CT; a sister-in-law, Betty (Myers) Simpson of Cambridge; six nieces and nephews, Charla Lowery of Cambridge, Deirdre "Dee" (& Jay) Johnson of Cambridge, Jay (& Annazia) Chandler of Patterson CA, Eric Chandler of Canton, Clyde Chandler of Cambridge, and Sarah Simpson of Hartford CT; four grandchildren; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and many cousins.

Visitation will be held Monday (September 17, 2018) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. with Pastor Randolph White and Rev. Diana Payton officiating.

Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
