Daniel William Eikenberry

Daniel William Eikenberry, 63, of Cambridge, died Monday (December 21, 2009) at his home. He was born April 2, 1946 in Cambridge, son of the late George W. Eikenberry and Alice H. (Myer) Eikenberry. In September of 2007, he retired from the State of Ohio as a licensed specialist for MRDD after twenty-one years of service. He was a member of the Nature Conservancy & Wilderness Center in Wilmont OH. He was a 1964 graduate of Cambridge High School. He earned his B.S. degree from Urbana University and his Master of Science degree in Natural Resources from The Ohio State University. He is survived by his significant other for the past sixteen years, Trudy Hawkins of Cambridge; his siblings, Peter (& Suzanne) Eikenberry of Brooklyn Heights NY, Mary Case (& the late Bill Palmer) of Torrance CA, Ellen (& Gene) Thomerson of Loveland CO, John (& Ruth) Eikenberry of Coshocton OH and Susan (& Peter) Benham of Grove City; eleven nieces & nephews; and twenty great-nieces & great-nephews. No calling hours will be observed. A private service was held at his home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday (December 22, 2009). In the words of Daniel, always conserve and recycle. Treat this land with respect and it will yield a multitude of beautiful things. Observe all other life and you will see more than anyone could ever dream of. Insects, plants, spiders, birds and sky: mushrooms, cows, fish and rocks all have stories to tell. We are not separate from this living Earth but are one of the lucky inhabitants. The postulations of men that are justified by greed and created gods make no difference to dragonfly, snake or tree. Man, the latecomer to this amazing garden, has much to learn. Daniel respected all life on this Earth and tried to leave soft footprints. He sought truth without prejudices, not an easy task.
