Darryl L. Hughes, 67, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (July 8, 2014) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born April 3, 1947 in Barnesville, son of the late Harold Hughes and Neva (Gallagher) Hughes. Mr. Hughes retired from the United States Postal Service where he had been a letter carrier. He was a 1965 graduate of Cambridge High School. Mr. Hughes was a US Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He was appointed to the Veterans Service Office Commission. He was a member of AMVETS Post 70, VFW Post 2901, Elks BPOE 448, American Legion #415 of Summerfield, Eagles Aerie 386, Moose #631 and DAV Chapter #28. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Dallas Cowboys, and of NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt Jr. Mr. Hughes was a member of Christ Our Light Parish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delmas Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Wehr) Hughes, whom he married April 16, 1977; his children, Kelly Roe of Bethesda, Toni Fisher of St. Clairsville, Lora (& Darin) Christman of Quaker City, Debbie Hartley of Cambridge, and a special daughter, Sandy (& Chris) Roof of Cambridge; three brothers, Dale Hughes (& Joanne Hamme) of Cambridge, Donnie (& Karen) Hughes of Old Washington, and Dick (& Myrt) Hughes of Seneca Lake; eleven grandchildren, Kayla, Tyler, Mariel, Jeffrey, Jordan, Lexi, Kaiden, Taison, Kirra, Allie, and Averey; a great-grandson, Kale; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Saturday (July 12, 2014) at 10 a.m. with Father Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be at Batesville Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
