David Gander, 76, of Cambridge, died Thursday (June 6, 2013) at Kindred/Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, following a year-long battle with cancer. He was born August 26, 1936 in Pleasant City, son of the late Abram T. Gander and Beulah (Hively) Gander. Mr. Gander was the former owner of Grant's Furniture of Byesville Ohio and several other businesses. He was a 1954 graduate of Pleasant City High School. He attended The Ohio State University and later graduated from Ohio University in 2005, earning his Bachelor of Specialized Studies degree. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge. He enjoyed reading, collecting, and watching old movies. Mr. Gander was a US Navy veteran, having served for four years. He is survived by his life-long companion, Donna Gander of Cambridge; two sons, Grant Gander of North Carolina and Van Gander of Columbus; a daughter, Deanna Childers of Richmond IN; two grandchildren, Brock Childers and Delaney Gander; and his extended family, Debbie (& Tim) Mosser and their children Jesse & Trent and Doree (& Tim) Evancho and their children Stephen, Michael, & David. No calling hours will be observed. Military graveside services will be held in the Veterans Section at Northwood Cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in David's name to Hospice of Guernsey, Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
