David R. Gossett

June 25, 1941 — July 12, 2020

David Robert Gossett, 79, of Salesville went home to be with his heavenly father on July 12, 2020.

Dave was born to the late Herbert and Jeanette Gossett on June 25, 1941 in Belmont, Ohio. He graduated from Flushing High School in 1959, where he enjoyed playing basketball, a sport that he passed down to his kids and grandkids. After high school, Dave worked at Ford Motor Company in Cleveland before he joined the Air Force in 1963 as an airman. He was honorably discharged in 1965, leaving to help his ailing father on their dairy farm. Dave married Sheryl Ann Roe on June 5, 1966. They purchased the 5 acres of land with their current home, which quickly grew to 200 acres and flourished into Raven Road Holsteins. Dave continued to work the dairy farm full time, getting up every morning and ending every day by tending to his cows and crops, while also working a full time shift at Westinghouse in Cambridge. When Westinghouse closed around the early 1970's, Dave stayed with the farm full time. Dave and Sheryl had three children, Robert (Heidi) Gossett, Devanie Gossett, and David "Rick" (Gretchen) Gossett. They were faithful attendees at Salesville Church of Faith and enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives between milking the cows. Dave retired and sold all but the original 5 acres of the farm in 2006. In retirement, Dave and Sheryl loved to travel up to the Amish country, attend farm auctions, take care of their garden, watch the Buckeyes, and hear all about his grandsons' school and sporting activities.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and children, daughters-in-law, as well as his beloved grandsons, Austin and Aaric Gossett, Dimetri Brandon, and Noah and Caleb Gossett. Also surviving Dave are brothers, Dean Johnson and Herb (Coralee) Gossett, and sister, Ginny Knott, sister-in-law Gladys Johnson, sisters-in-law Twila (Jerry) Cordell and Valerie Wilkinson, brothers-in-law Kevin (Berlene) Roe, Nelson (Pam) Roe, Daren (Ann) Roe, Loren (Heather) Roe, as well as many other family and friends.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, sister Wanda (Ernie) Wilcox, brother John Johnson, sister-in-law Freda Johnson, and brother-in-law Ernie Knott. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Salesville Church of Faith, 119 Locust Street, Salesville, OH 43778.
