David F. Shipley

David F. Shipley, 71, of Cambridge, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer on Saturday (October 11, 2008). Mr. Shipley was born on April 5, 1937 in Confluence PA, son of the late Charles Shipley and Clara (Bird) Shipley. Mr. Shipley moved to Ohio in 1961. Mr. Shipley served for over twenty-eight years in the police force in Ohio, Punderson State Park, Mantua, Garrettsville, Powhatan Point, Woodsfield and lastly as Chief in Caldwell. Most recently, he worked for Buckeye Guard Service from 2000 until the time of his illness. Mr. Shipley enjoyed fishing and having coffee with his friends. He was a member of Point Pleasant Masonic Lodge #360 F & AM. Mr. Shipley was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1954 to 1960. He leaves his wife, Janet A. (Pappas) Kling Shipley of the home, whom he married on May 27, 1978; a daughter, Teresa (& Joe) Summers of Windham; three step-children, Charles (& Donna) Smith of Shaker Heights, Peggy (& John) Stierl of Aurora and Richard (& Kiniko) Harley of Shalersville; eight grandchildren, Yevette (& Adam) Lommler of Streetsboro, Cortney (& Jonathan) Neer of Indian Head MD, Kaila Summers of Windham, Bethany Harley of Shalersville, Allisen Harley of Shalersville, Kiniko Harley of Shalersville, Cody Harley of Shalersville and Connie Smith of Shaker Heights; two great-grandchildren, Kierra Lommler of Streetsboro and Kylee Neer of Indian Head MD; three brothers, Valice Shipley of Texas, Ralph Shipley of Uniontown PA and Forest Shipley of Youngstown; and four sisters, Alta (& Ralph) Mohr of Marietta, Audrey Rishel of Uniontown PA, Thelma Sarver of Markleysburg PA and Francis (& Roland) Williams of Berlin Center. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Green Family Funeral Home, Mantua, where services will be held on Thursday (October 16, 2008) at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Park Cemetery, Garrettsville (Portage County) OH.
