David A. Stoneburner

May 30, 1942 — October 23, 2015

David A. Stoneburner, 73, of Cambridge, passed away Friday night (October 23, 2015). David was born May 30, 1942 in Logan, WV. He married his high school sweetheart, Jackie D. (Aber) Stoneburner, and they have been together for fifty-five years. David served in the US Air Force 305 combat defense unit. He was a military policeman. He served during the Vietnam War Era and was on standby for the JFK assassination. He was honorably discharged. David attended Cambridge High School and received his diploma while serving in the US Air Force. He later attended OSU for nursing studies. He graduated from the Ohio State Patrol Academy in Columbus. He was employed as a police officer in Newcomerstown, Barnesville, and Cambridge. Later, he was employed at the former NCR. He was also employed at Randall Textron. He was the president of four unions. He also worked at and retired from LDM Technologies. David is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a commercial artist and was contracted by Oxford Tile to head up a major campaign in the 1970's. The campaign was an absolute success. Unfortunately, almost every sign created was later stolen. David A. Stoneburner was not only an exceptional husband, but also an outstanding and awesome dad. He never let a day go by without telling his children he loved them. He was known by the nickname "Stoney" for many years, but now, and more importantly, he is very lovingly referred to as "Pop". "Pop" couldn't be further from ordinary if he tried. His family grieves his loss in a major way. The Patriarch has passed. "Pop's" carpe diem attitude afforded him an extraordinary life. In addition to his many charities and his love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, "Pop" collected movies new and old, obscure and relevant - his favorite being Laurel and Hardy. He played his music almost every day until he discovered the Fox News channel. Then, politics became a passion. "Pop" painted masterpieces that are museum worthy. He was an avid reader and lover of books. Among his favorite topics were Quantum Physics, UFO's, and the works of Carl Jung. He was also a poetry enthusiast. His favorite book, however, remained The Holy Bible KJV. "Pop" had a degree in Parapsychology and still enjoyed the challenge of a good old Nintendo game. He was a dedicated body builder and a loyal Harley rider who made friends for life. "Pop" loved his dogs, too. Among his Boxer and Bulldog breeds, Stanley - a tiny, but very cool and fierce Chihuahua - was his sidekick for many years. When Stanley passed Pop welcomed Ollie, a hyperactive but happy Boston Terrier, who sadly is still waiting for him to come back home. And that is just a slight insight into our "Pop". David A. Stoneburner is the son of the late Griffin L. Stoneburner and the late Erie K. Stoneburner. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Gary D. Stoneburner. He is survived by his loving wife Jackie D. Stoneburner; and a sister, Sonja L. Stoneburner. He has three children: a daughter, Julie D. Dolney, married to George E. Dolney Jr., of Byesville; a son, David W. Stoneburner, married to Samantha Stoneburner, of Tucson AZ; and a daughter, Sherry D. Arthurs, married to Kenneth D. Arthurs, of Cambridge. "Pop" has four grandchildren: a grandson, George E. Dolney III; a grandson, Dean A. Granitsas; a granddaughter, Autumn Brook Arthurs; and a granddaughter, Caylie R. Stoneburner. He has two great-grandchildren: a great-granddaughter, Zelda Marie Dolney; and a great-grandson, George Edwin Dolney IV. At the family's request, no calling hours will be observed. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (October 28, 2015) at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, with Bishop Craig Bell, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
