Delmar "Del" Franklin Severing

Delmar "Del" Franklin Severing, 87, of Cambridge, died Thursday (January 2, 2020) at Altercare of Cambridge.

He was born May 19, 1932 in Dixie, son of the late Vince Severing and Margaret (Self) Severing.

Mr. Severing was a diesel mechanic – he bought a store in Kentucky, moved to Chicago, and then to Ohio. He was also a mechanic and painter at the Columbus Airport.

He was a member of the Nazarene Church.

Mr. Severing was a US Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Paul, and Rick; a sister, Ruth Ann; and five infant siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Alice (Carder) Hoover-Severing, whom he married October 14, 1989; two brothers, Roger Severing and John Severing; two sisters, Mary Alice (& Ray) Coats and Barbara (& Ralph) Short; and Marie Hoover, a granddaughter whom Del and Alice raised together.

Visitation will be held Monday (January 6, 2020) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Ralph Short officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
