Derl A. Troutman

Derl A. Troutman, 86, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (May 24, 2011) at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus. He was born July 19, 1924 in Dornsife PA, son of the late Arthur Troutman and Lena (Reed) Troutman. Mr. Troutman worked in the real estate and property management business. He was an independent insurance broker/agent and a member of the Association of Realtors. He most recently worked with Carol Goff Realty. Mr. Troutman was the owner of the Red Carpet Health Care Center of Cambridge and also the Barnesville Health Care Center. Mr. Troutman was a graduate of Catawba College of North Carolina, earning his B.A. degree, and a graduate of the Lancaster Theological Seminary of Lancaster PA. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Cambridge and he was very thankful for the years that he served at the church. He was an Elder of the First Christian Church. Mr. Troutman was also an assistant minister for the Trinity United Church of Christ in Cleveland OH. He was a member of Rotary Club International and attended meetings throughout the world. He maintained perfect attendance at Rotary for over twenty-five years. He was a devoted family man and was dedicated to the community. He expressed his generosity through gifts to many family members, beloved community people and to multiple national charities and universities. He enjoyed animals, including his loving dog, Togo, and his cat, Gracie Boy. He loved his home and contributed to the greening of the community through yearly Rotary tree planting events. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Anne Troutman; a step-son, Stephen J. Atkin; and a sister, Thelma Romberger. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne E. (King) Troutman, whom he married June 18, 1971; three sons, Peter (& Martha) Troutman of Yarmouth Port MA, David (& Pamela) Troutman of West Barnstable MA, and John (& Mary) Helmerci of Chicago IL; three daughters, Cheryl (& James) King of Eastampton NJ, Joyce Nutaitis of Eastampton NJ, and Laurie Gray of Cleveland OH; two brothers, Earnest (& Nancy) Troutman of Pillow PA and Percy (& Pauline) Troutman of Herndon PA; a sister, Elizabeth Michaels of Herndon PA; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Funeral services will be held Saturday (May 28, 2011) at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 1127 Beatty Avenue, with Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 1127 Beatty Avenue, Cambridge OH 43725.
