Dewey M. Harris, 83, of Cambridge, formerly of Quaker City, died Friday (Dec. 18, 2009) at Autumn Health Care, Cambridge. He was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Wellsburg, W.Va., son of the late Elmer Harris and Jeanette (Calendine) Harris-Kelch. Mr. Harris joined the U.S. Army in 1944, serving in the 12th Infantry in France and Germany during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a retired groundman with Monogahela-Allegheny Power Co. After his retirement in 1988 he spent his time working around his farm until he fell ill in 2008. He loved the outdoors, farming, fishing and hunting. He read the Bible daily and found great pleasure listening to the local Mennonite choir and attending special services. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary; stepfather Arthur Kelch; four brothers, Elmer, Louis, Donald and Charles; two sisters, Martha Brown and Clara Baranowski; and a daughter-in-law, Chris Harris. He leaves to mourn and remember him: His wife, Anna Jane (Henthorne) Harris, whom he married Feb. 11, 1946; two sons, Ronald Harris of Cambridge and James (Constance) Harris of Quaker City; a daughter, Nancy (Abbott) Moore of Cleveland; a sister, Alice Taylor of Follansbee, W.Va.; 17 grandchidlren; 47 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visaitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Sunday) at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday with Jonathan Raber officiating. Burial will be in Keithtown Cemetery.
