Don E. Ringer, 80, of Cambridge, passed away Sunday (January 21, 2007) at his home. He was born July 2, 1926 near Cambridge, son of the late Frame and Ellen (Dodson) Ringer. Mr. Ringer was a member of the New Concord High School Class of 1945 and received his high school diploma while serving in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1950. Mr. Ringer taught woodworking and machine shop at Philo High School from 1950-1955. He retired from the former United States Fidelity and Guaranty Insurance Company, (Columbus, Ohio branch office) in 1978 and from the former Oil & Gas Insurance Company of Worthington, Ohio in 1985. Upon retirement, he moved to Guernsey County and restored an historic family home in Knox Township. He became a free-lance writer of short stories describing his boyhood memories of growing up in Guernsey County during the Depression days of the 1930's. He is past president of The Guernsey County Historical Society, member of The Guernsey County Republican Executive Committee, and The Guernsey County Tax Review Board. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Cambridge. Mr. Ringer is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Clark) Ringer of the home, whom he married July 8, 1951; two daughters, Molly (& Stephen) McCreadie of Moreland Hills (Cleveland) and Heidi (& Kevin) Latham of Edgewood KY (Cincinnati area); four grandchildren, Andrew McCreadie, Valerie McCreadie, Bailey Latham and Henry Latham; a brother, Hal (& Peggy) Ringer of Cambridge; three nephews, Douglas (& Desiree) Ringer Sr. of LaGrange KY, Matthew (& Diane) Ringer of Mt. Juliet TN and Timothy (& Jean Anne) Ringer of Hermitage TN; a great-niece, Serena Ringer; a great-nephew, Douglas Ringer Jr.; a brother-in-law, Paul Clark of Cambridge; and an aunt, Ersel (Ringer) Caddes of Cambridge. No calling hours will be observed. Graveside services will be held Saturday (January 27, 2007) at 11 a.m. at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with Rev. Dr. Terry Litton officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, is handling arrangements.
