Don A. "Spike" Stewart, 72, of Cambridge lost his battle with Alzheimer's at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday (February 13, 2019).
Spike was born September 2, 1946 in Clarksburg, WV and was the son of the late Donald D. and Billie June (Fortney) Stewart.
He attended Cambridge High School. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Army for four years and received a National Defense Service Medal, expert rifle and good conduct medal, and was honorably discharged in 1966 as a Sergeant. Spike retired from Anchor Glass Container in 2004 where he was a mold maker and journeyman. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, golfing, NASCAR races, cooking and riding his Harley Davidson with his wife Sherry. He was a member of VFW #2901 and Eagles Aerie #386. He will be remembered as having a great sense of humor.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents and his beloved boxer, Mandy Mae.
Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Sherry (Aber) Stewart whom he married June 14, 2004; a daughter Wendy (Curt) Bell; five step-children, Janie (Gary) Downerd, David Vance, Becky (Scot) Bichard, Lee (Misty) Hively, and Sherry (James Campbell) Hively; grandchildren, Brittany Stewart, J.T. Boyd, Gauge Stewart; great grandsons, Zane and Jameson; thirteen step- grandchildren and thirteen step-great grandchildren; sister Carolyn (Bill) Mitchell, brother Tom (Kim) Stewart; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Stoneburner and Judy Leonhardt; one brother-in-law George Aber.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to special grandsons, Evan and Owen Hively for all their love and affection and time spent with Grandpa; caregiver and sister-in-law Judy Leonhardt; nurse and step-granddaughter, Chanell Roberts and Hospice of Guernsey.
