Donald Craig Farley

Donald Craig Farley, 84, of Cambridge, died Thursday (July 25, 2013) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born April 15, 1929 in Cambridge, son of the late Gilbert Farley and Margaret (Bebout) Farley. Mr. Farley worked for Barnes Advertising of Zanesville for forty-two years, where he built billboards. He was a member of the NRA. He and his wife, Velma, enjoyed boating and traveling, especially to the ocean. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. In his earlier years, he was involved in baseball both in Little League and Babe Ruth divisions. He also bowled in many leagues at Capitol Lanes and King Pin Lanes. Later, he loved going to the sporting events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always enjoyed having fun and always had a twinkle in his eye. Mr. Farley was a US Army veteran, having served in the 82nd Airborne division during WWII. He was a member of the Eagles Nest Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Louise (Bennett) Farley, who died September 5, 2006. They were married on November 19, 1949. Also deceased are two sons, Donald Michael and Terry Alan; a brother, Charles Farley; an infant brother; and a sister, Patricia Bryan. He is survived by a daughter, Debbie (& Garry) Edwards of Cambridge; nine grandchildren, Scott Farley of Kentucky, Luke (& Jessica) Farley of Byesville, Chris (& Mary) Farley of Akron, Jason (& Jeannie) Farley of Akron, Michael (& Kristen Wilson) Edwards of Wilmington NC, Misty (& Cory) Smith of Chandlersville, Karla (& Greg) Schmied of Canal Winchester, Kacee (& Brad) Gregg of Cambridge, and Kelsey Wallace of Senecaville; sixteen grandchildren, Megan, Missy, Jacob, Gwen, Melody, Chelsey, Ethan, Eli, Kendelle, Braylen, Bradyn, Mason, Sydney, Noah, Jack, and Raleigh; a brother-in-law, Gail Bryan; many nieces and nephews; and Nancy Geary, whom he thought of as a daughter. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Monday (July 29, 2013) at 1 p.m. with Rev. Deborah D. Bolen officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
