Donald Hastings, 86, of Elyria passed away Sunday (February 21, 2016) at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon. He was born October 13, 1929 in Batesville, son of the late Roy and Eleanor (Cline) Hastings. He was a graduate of Batesville High School. Donald worked for Nordsons as patent Engineer, where he had thirty patents to his name. He served his Country in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion in Amherst. Upon his retirement, Donald enjoyed volunteering at Crestwood Elementary School where he tutored many students. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie (nee Booth); and his brother, Bobby. He is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Eileen (nee Booth); a daughter, Sharon (David) Jacobson of St. Petersburg FL; three grandchildren, Adam, Maya, and Noam Jacobson; and three brothers, Dean (Lillian) of Elyria, Hugh (Ruth) of Columbus, and Lonnie (Vivian) of Lancaster. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will be held Saturday (February 27, 2016) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rodney Reeves officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
