Donald "Donnie" Hughes

Donald "Donnie" Hughes, 70, of Old Washington, died Monday (January 11, 2016) at his home. He was born November 27, 1945 in Barnesville, son of the late Harold Hughes and Neva (Gallagher) Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a superintendent with Ohio Department of Transportation in Guernsey County for many years. He was a member of Point Pleasant Masonic Lodge 360 Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, a member of Aladdin Shrine, and Kambri Shrine. Mr. Hughes was a US Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of Cambridge VFW Post 2901 and Byesville American Legion 116. He was also a member of the Democrat Club and Kentucky Colonels. Mr. Hughes was baptized into the Catholic faith. He attended Guernsey County Catholic School and then graduated from Cambridge High School. He enjoyed motorcycle riding with his wife, Karen, and loved spending time with his granddaughter, Mackenzie. One of his favorite pastimes was meeting his friends at Lanning's Restaurant for coffee and stories. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Delmas, Darryl, and Harold "Dick" Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Karen (Larrick) Hughes, whom he married August 24, 1968; two daughters, Beth Ann (& Jimmy) Cartner of North Salem and Megan Hughes of Old Washington; a brother, Dale Hughes (& Joanne Hamme) of Cambridge; a granddaughter, Mackenzie "Doodlebug"; and his mother-in-law, Ruth Larrick of Byesville. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where Masonic services will be held at 4:30 p.m. by the Point Pleasant Lodge #360. Funeral services will be held Thursday (January 14, 2016) at 11 a.m. with Father Paul Hrezo officiating. The Guernsey County Veterans Council will conduct military honors at the conclusion of the funeral service.
