Donald W. Stoneburner (Pap), 90, of Salesville, passed away at 12:35 a.m. Monday (October 5, 2009) at the Emerald Pointe Care Center, Barnesville. He was born on February 15, 1919 in Guernsey County, son of the late John and Mary (St. Clair) Stoneburner of Salesville and younger brother of the late John G. Stoneburner of Akron. Mr. Stoneburner, a WW II US Navy Veteran (Lt) served as the communications officer on the USS Hollandia, was a member the Salesville United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of The American Legion, 32nd degree and 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW Post 5169 and a member of the Nobles of The Mystic Shrine of Columbus Ohio. After the war, Mr. Stoneburner ran the family store in Salesville, where he retired from the store and The United States Postal Service as the Postmaster for Salesville, Ohio on June 15, 1979. Mr. Stoneburner graduated from Quaker City High School in 1936 and was a graduate of The Ohio State University, with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. To all who knew him, Don was a loving husband, inspiring father and grandfather, devout Christian, and an all around virtuous man with impeccable character. He will always be remembered as a giver, never asking for anything in return, both in life and death. His compassion, human decency, inspiration, and selfless life will never be forgotten. Don is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 49 Years Mary Marie (Wyscarver) Stoneburner of Salesville; son Harold Douglas (Georganna) Hull of Salesville; grandchildren Steven Douglas (Joanne) Hull of Philadelphia, PA and Gerra Hull of Salesville; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ava, and Emma Hull; and special nieces Susan (Stan) Gowin and Shelly "Rooster" (Ken) Lucas; a sister-in-law, Juanita Stoneburner of Akron; and special neighbors, the Stephens Family, Casey, Tonya, Cole, Madison and little Casey. Visitation will be held on Wednesday (October 7, 2009) at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a funeral service following at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Slay officiating, assisted by Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh. A graveside burial service will be held on Thursday (October 8, 2009) at 11:00 a.m. at Salesville Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. The family will like to say a special thank you to the caregivers at Emerald Pointe Care Center.
