Dorothy A. Kertel

Dorothy A. Kertel, 72, of Cambridge, passed away Thursday (December 12, 2019) at Astoria Place surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born February 1, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Elmer and Dorothy (Lucas) Karas.

Dorothy was a strong woman, a devoted wife and mother, and Catholic by faith. Her backyard was created to be an official wildlife habitat, as she had a great love of animals and enjoyed bird watching. She was also an avid reader.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Karas.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, John Kertel, whom she married February 4, 1967; a daughter, Marcia Kertel (Eddie Fisher) of Las Vegas, NV; three brothers, Michael Karas of Cambridge, Bob Karas of Byesville, and Jim (Jan) Karas of Coshocton; three sisters, Mary (Jim) Sivard of Byesville, Carol (Joe) Palumbo of Tallmadge, and Janice (and the late Jim) Trace of Byesville; her best friend, Judy Ross of Lore City; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.  A special thank you to all her caregivers (her extended family) at Astoria Place.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
