Dorothy Avalon Mcvicker

Dorothy Avalon McVicker, 94, of Quaker City, died Friday (March 18, 2016) at Emerald Pointe, Barnesville. She was born May 29, 1921 in Hendrysburg, daughter of the late Frank Spence and Leah (Hamilton) Spence. Mrs. McVicker retired from Alltel Telephone Company after fifteen years of service. She had also worked at Barnesville Campus Shirt Factory. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, cooking, and working jigsaw puzzles. Mrs. McVicker was a member of the Quaker City United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star # 206 of Barnesville. She was a 1939 graduate of Old Washington High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Leonard McVicker, who died November 30, 2006. They were married June 12, 1940. Also deceased is a sister, Marty Corwin; and a brother-in-law, Bill Corwin. She is survived by two sons, Thomas S. (& Cynthia) McVicker of Quaker City and David L. (& Jackie) McVicker of Quaker City; a brother, James (& Tammi) Spence of Terre Haute IN; two sisters, Nancy (& Jim) Laughman of Twinsburg and Jo Ellen (& Franklin) Starr of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Kelly (& Rodney) Wells, Kimberly (& Randy) Colvin Jr., David M. (& Emma) McVicker, T.S. (& Wendy) McVicker, Christopher (& Lavonta) McVicker, and Todd (& Sarah) McVicker; and eleven great-grandchildren, Alexandria McVicker, Logan McVicker, Anna McVicker, Mia McVicker, Miley McVicker, Paige Hayes, Riley Wells, Oliver Colvin, Lillian Colvin, Ellison McVicker, and Anderson McVicker. Visitation will be held Friday (March 25, 2016) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jim Lee officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
