Earl VanKirk Jr., 85, of Cambridge, passed away Friday (Dec. 25, 2009) at the Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Washington, Pa., the son of the late Earl H. VanKirk Sr. and Myrtle M. Dunkle VanKirk. Mr. VanKirk was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran who served during World War II and a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a former insurance investigator for Equifax. He later was a supervisor at the Cambridge Employment Office. Mr. VanKirk served as a scoutmaster in Cambridge for many years. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother. On June 26, 1948, he married Joan Davis VanKirk of Cambridge, who survives. Other survivors include one son, Brian M. VanKirk of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Robin E. (Jim) Luce of Lexington; three grandchildren, Stephen Luce, Kattie (Justin) Chance and Joseph Luce; and one great-grandchild, Caiden. No calling hours or funeral services are planned. Burial will take place at a later date in the Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.
