Edith Belle Mathers

Edith Belle Mathers, 87, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (October 27, 2009) at the Riverside Manor Nursing Home, Newcomerstown. She was born August 11, 1922 in Kimbolton, daughter of the late John A. Davis and Ora Belle (Durben) Davis. She married Paul Edwin Mathers on October 22, 1942. Mrs. Mathers was a homemaker. She had attended the Plainfield High School. She was a member of the Mt. Hermon United Presbyterian Church. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren in Newcomerstown, where she was cared for by her daughter for the past ten years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edwin Mathers, who died January 19, 2001; a daughter, Shirley Ann Mathers; a sister, Betty Jane Pontius; and a sister-in-law, Mary Davis. She is survived by a son, James E. (& Diane) Mathers of Rochester NY; a daughter, Jean C. (& David) Casteel of Newcomerstown; a brother, Willard L. Davis of Kimbolton; three grandchildren, Todd R. (& Brooke) Mathers of Cambridge; Jennifer (& Bob) Moffett of Newcomerstown and David (& Jodie) Casteel II of Newcomerstown; and nine great-grandchildren, Christopher Barnett, Kayla Moffett, Haley Moffett, Emily Moffett, Keegan Mathers, Marley Mathers, Emma Clark, Mattie Clark and Carter Casteel. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and also on Friday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Funeral services will be held at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, on Friday (October 30, 2009) at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
