Edmond C. Massey, 88, a lifelong resident of Akron and a recent resident of Cambridge, died Saturday (July 10, 2021) at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
He was born March 12, 1933 in Brunswick GA, son of the late George Vinson and Bernice (Massey) Vinson.
Mr. Massey was a 1952 graduate of Risley High School and a graduate of Hammel Business College. He was the owner and operator of Summit Mattress Company for twenty-one years and had worked for the B.F. Goodrich Company for thirty-seven years.
He was a member of the Tiretown Golf Club and served two terms as president. He was also a member of the Recreation Social Club and served three years as president.
Mr. Massey was a US Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hiawatha (Fluker) Massey.
He is survived by a son, Kevin (April) Massey of Cambridge; two stepsons, Kenneth Sharpe of Akron and Keith (Judy) Lewis of Jeanerette LA; a sister, Marjorie (Barney) Washington of Newnan GA; numerous grandchildren, including Brandon Peterson and Stephanie Massey both of Cambridge; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday (July 15, 2021) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Randolph White officiating.
