Edward P. Butler

Edward P. Butler, 91, of Quaker City, died Monday (May 25, 2015) at Emerald Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Barnesville. He was born April 16, 1924 in Temperanceville, son of the late Joseph Butler and Thelma (McGee) Butler. Mr. Butler retired after forty years with Broughton Foods of Marietta, where he had been a route supervisor. He was also the former mayor of Quaker City. He was a member of the Quaker City United Methodist Church, where he had been the Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a member and past commander of the Quaker City Earl Conner American Legion Post. He was a long-time bowler in the league of Chestnut Lanes of Barnesville and was a league officer. He was a 1942 graduate of Somerton High School. Mr. Butler was a US Marine Corps veteran, having served during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Bruce Butler; four brothers, Leon, Donald, Gerald, and Robert Butler; and two sisters, Rita Orr and Annabel Howell. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Marjorie (Hall) Butler, whom he married August 30, 1947; two sons, Clifford (& Paula) Butler of Barnesville and Richard "Rick" (& Barb) Butler of Byesville; two brothers, William (& Janet) Butler of Hillsboro and John (& Joyce) Butler of Quaker City; three sisters, Betty Willis of Barnesville, Jeanette (& Dave) Hisson of Barnesville, and Patricia (& Gene) Hannahs of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Kimberly (& Russ) Young, Staci (& Carl) Graham, Nathanial Butler, Eric Butler, Steve (& Emily) Butler, Britney (& Jared) Giesey, and Brooke (& Chris) Wells; nine great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Butler of Barnesville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will be held Friday (May 29, 2015) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Carol Touvell and Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to one of the following organizations: 1) Barnesville Hospital Building Foundation, 639 West Main Street, Barnesville OH 43713; or 2) Quaker City United Methodist Church, PO Box 409, Quaker City OH 43773.
