Edward R. Chesser, 76, passed away on Thursday (January 24, 2008) at Akron General Medical Center following a short illness. He was born January 25, 1931 in Summerlee, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Chesser and his mother, Mary Jarvis. Edward was a 1948 Graduate of Oak Hill High School in Oak Hill, WV. Following high school graduation he served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He earned a BA in physical science from Glenville State College in Glenville, WV, and later earned a Masters degree in Chemistry at Miami University in Oxford, OH. A retired high school science teacher, Edward was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and was also a lifetime member of the VFW. In his retirement years he stayed active by working in a variety of vocations, most recently at the Longaberger Company. Edward loved his family, he loved his friends, and he loved the church he attended, New Concord United Methodist Church. The pastor of the church and the Sunday school class were very special to him. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Sue (Davidson) Chesser, two sons, Stephen Chesser of Akron, OH and Jeffrey (Kris) Chesser of Westerville, OH, and one daughter, Nancy Chesser of Columbus, OH; two brothers, Charles (Mary Alice) Waitkus and William (Marie)Waitkus of Beckley, WV. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home,Cambridge. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Steve Sullivan will be on Wednesday at 11 AM, also at Thorn-Black Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Northwood Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
