Edward John Gomez, age 71, of Cambridge, passed away Friday (July 15, 2016) at The Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia. Ed was born November 24, 1944 in San Fernando CA, the son of John A. Gomez and Lupe (Alba) Gomez. After graduating from John H. Francis Polytechnic High School, Ed attended Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where he received an Associate in Arts degree in Mechanical Drafting. In 1965, Ed joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a Loadmaster on C130s during the Vietnam War. After the war, Ed went to work as a piping designer for various engineering companies, including Rust Engineering in Portland OR where he met his wife, Linda. Ed retired in 2014 after forty-four years in the piping industry. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Gomez; and four half-brothers, Felix, Arthur, Charles, and Daniel Gomez. Ed is survived by his wife, Linda, of Cambridge; his son, Brian Gomez, of Missoula MT; and his granddaughter, Gabriella Soto of Portland OR. Visitation will be held Wednesday (July 27, 2016) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Burial with military honors will be Thursday (July 28, 2016) at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, at 1:30 p.m.
