Ellis Wayne Mccracken

Ellis Wayne McCracken, 75, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (January 24, 2017) at his home from complications of heart disease and diabetes. He was born November 6, 1941 in Cambridge, son of Pauline R. (Shaffer) McCracken and the late Ellis W. McCracken. Mr. McCracken was the owner of the Frosty Treat of Cambridge from 1981 to 2008. He was a former teacher and coach at Cambridge High School from 1963 to 1967. He worked for Shell Oil Company from 1967 to 1970 and he worked as a manager at the Copper Kettle from 1970 to 1972. Mr. McCracken also worked as an insurance agent from 1972 to 1987. He was a member of the Southern Hills Baptist Fellowship. Mr. McCracken was a member of the Masonic Lodge #66 F. & A.M. and the Scottish Rite, Kambri Shrine, and the NRA. He served eight years on the Cambridge City Schools Board of Education and eight years on the Vocational School Board of Education. He also served as a trustee at the former MATC (now Zane State College) for six years. He was a 1959 graduate of Cambridge High School and earned his B.A. from Muskingum in 1963. Mr. McCracken was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and the Fighting Muskies. He is survived by his wife, Susan Kay (Youngen) McCracken, whom he married November 26, 1964; his mother, Pauline R. McCracken of Cambridge; a son, Ethan Wayne McCracken of Miami FL; two daughters, Virginia "Vergie" Ellen (& Joe) Fabian of Cambridge and Victoria June (& Clinton) Parsons of Brimfield; two sisters, Condradine June (& Tom) Williams of Massillon and Gertrude Kay (& Alan) Tuttle of Vandalia; and three grandchildren, Luke Allen Fabian, Emma Grace Parsons, and Colon Ross Parsons. Visitation will be held Friday (January 27, 2017) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. A memorial service will be held Saturday (January 28, 2017) at 11:30 a.m. at the Southern Hills Baptist Church (127 W 8 ^th Street, Cambridge) In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ellis's name to the Southern Hills Baptist Fellowship Church, 127 W 8 ^th Street, Cambridge OH 43725.
