Elnora "Ellie" Hymes, 88, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Ellie was born on August 15, 1936, in Cambridge, a daughter to the late William and Mary (Hamilton) Gaskill. Ellie was a 1954 graduate of Cambridge High School and attended Community Business College. She worked for the Bureau of Workers Compensation until she retired. Ellie enjoyed traveling, quilting, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John C. Hymes, whom she married on October 1, 1960, and passed away on January 7, 2023, her sister, Winifred Mahaffey, her brothers, Charles Gaskill and William Gaskill Jr., and her nephew, Charles "Charlie" Gaskill. Ellie is survived by her adopted granddaughter, Hallie (Thomas) Davis of the home, her sister, Naomi Jean Henry of Cambridge, her sister-in-law, Sara (Bill) Dumbauld of Pickerington, her nephew, David Henry of Cambridge, her nieces, Anna Henry of Canal Winchester, Melissa (Rick) McAdam of Livingston, Montana, and Sara Elizabeth Marsino of Naples, Florida. Ellie also leaves behind her furry friends, Rascal, Nia, and Nova. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 1:00PM at Northwood Cemetery with Rev. Tina Sirocki officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Ellies name to the Guernsey County Dog Shelter, 62824 Bennett Avenue, Cambridge, OH 43725.
