Emerson Frederick Christman, 81, of Cambridge, passed away Thursday (May 15, 2014) at the Red Carpet Health Care Center, Cambridge. He was born December 25, 1932 in Monroe County, son of the late Alva and Pauline (Kahrig) Christman. He graduated in 1950 from Batesville High School and left three days later for the United States Army. He was a Korean War veteran. Mr. Christman was the owner and operator of Christman Trucking for twenty-five years. He was also an employee of Valley Mining for seventeen years and a newspaper carrier for The Daily Jeffersonian for over ten years. He most recently was employed with Buckeye Guard at AMG Vanadium. He was a fifty-year member of the American Legion, a 32nd degree Mason and past Master of Quaker City Masonic Lodge 500 F & AM, and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge. He was Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star in 1975 and 1976 and an active member of VFW Post 2901. Mr. Christman was confirmed at Evangelical Reformed Church of Lewisville. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Lucille (Wyscarver) Christman; two daughters, Rita Shuman of Quaker City and Karen (& Richard) Starr of Caldwell; four sisters and two brothers, Eloise Eschbaugh of Byesville, Shirley Stephen of Caldwell, Gerald Christman of Lafferty, Ellis Christman of Eldon, Diana (& Richard) Sams of Marietta, and Evelyn (& Carl) Hartley of Marietta; four grandchildren, Mitchel (& Andrea) Shaffer, Aaron (& Mandy) Shaffer, Ryan Starr, and Michelle (& John) Curry; seven great-grandchildren; many close friends and extended family; and his special buddy, his Sheltie "Cody". Visitation will be held Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (May 20, 2014) at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Emerson's name to Hospice of Guernsey, Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
