Emmett S. Campbell, 94, of Byesville passed away Sunday (June 15, 2014) at Red Carpet Health Care Center. He was born January 27, 1920 in Smock, PA and was the son of the late Alvia and Irene (Campton) Campbell. Emmett attended Calvary Baptist church and his love for God was evident in everything he did. Mr. Campbell was a retired retail professional who worked for several retail chains during his career.. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a graduate of Redstone H.S. in Republic, PA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Alvia Campbell and one sister Agnes Bryner. He was a loving and faithful husband to his wife Mary Ellen (Hammond) Campbell whom he married April 14, 1945; a loving and caring father to his children, two sons, Walter (Linda ) Campbell of Pataskala and Kirk (Glory) Campbell of Apple Valley, Minn.; one daughter Debra (Frank) Aftanas of Wellsburg, WV; one sister, and Jane Smith both of PA.; a loving and grandfather to eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Calling hours will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge where services will follow at 1:00 with Pastor Dennis Rost officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military services conducted by Guernsey County Veterans Council.
